Blue Car

More indoor painting as our temperature stays cold.  Just thinking about summer and Cape Cod warms me up.  This scene is a complete head shot as I remember Main Street in Harwich Port on Cape Cod.  There always seem to be people cruising up and down between the Kite Shop and George's Pizza.  I have done paintings of both these places many times.  This painting was done with a lot of thought about color.  Wherever possible, I put in complementary colors to create conflict.  I purposely put in many figures to enliven the scene.  My light source is 3/4 Right and I imagined the cast shadows.  All in all, it was an afternoon of fun.

Ready for Summer in Harwich

One of my favorite painting subjects is the Kite Shop on Main St. in Harwichport, MA which is on Cape Cod. It is iconic for me and after painting it for years, I find many others trying it. It is a blast of colors. The front walkway is usually filled with things that you have to navigate around. It is a magnate for kids in the summer. I mixed all of my colors for this painting on the paper. I have been doing this all week and starting to get familiar with outcomes. This direct glazing gives a more intensive color.

Main Street Harwichport, MA

This was a quick sketch while sitting indoors during the rain. I have painted the Kite Shop many times on location, so I know it quite well. The distortion is whimsy to an otherwise well known set of buildings here. Only the figures are standing upright.

I am in the countdown for days remaining on Cape Cod. The weather is getting cold. I am almost through my list of things to do before leaving. Not a bucketlist, but house closing.
