San Francisco Bay

Here is a switch from my Italian travels.  This landscape is seen while in bed, looking over my toes at San Francisco Bay.  It is a one point perspective so that the closer objects are seen from above and the distant ones tend to be more righted.  Kind of fun to paint this and it was a very quick painting, since I left the water in the Bay unpainted.

Wind on San Francisco Bay

Back painting with the group in Sausalito and this was a very quick painting. I wanted to concentrate on clouds and sky but it just would not dry fast enough so carried on with some sailboats, a la Jerry Stitt, and cypress trees showing the wind.

Good Morning, Sausalito

Painted in Sausalito on Wednesday on a beautiful day. Tried doing what Jerry did but my sky is more of a morning one. It was pointed out that each boat should be on a different plane which is logical when you think of it. The mirrored reflections of water are always fun and a way to finish off the foreground. This was painted on a new sheet of 140lb watercolor paper but it must have been scraped against something as the watercolor found these ridges to settle into. This was a half sheet and the same was true of the other half. Unfortunately, you cannot detect this until painting on the surface.

San Francisco Bay in December

The weather has been spectacular even when it starts off a touch nippy. The group wanted to paint trees and we found one in Sausalito along with a few boats. Painting is a great way to handle the holidays; a little sanity between delicious parties and great friends, and...lots of wine.

Hey, I've been busy but still painting. Was volunteering at diabetic summer camp and the kids were great. No major problems and everyone returned to their parents better than they left. I have been painting scenes in Sausalito where there have been some dramatic skies along with many great boats. These are some recent works. I will soon be painting on the New England coast from my Cape house. What a great life.
