Cape Cod Back Yard

Got in a painting before the rains came yesterday. We painted at the home of a local landscaper. It is possibly true that there are more landscapers than any other occupation on the Cape. That is, unless you count artists. The morning started sunny but the dark clouds loomed overhead as the morning reached 10AM. The challenge was not only the imminent rain but the many greens that I had to make. I used yellows, burnt sienna and ultramarine mixes with sap green to produce many shades of green. It was a good outing if only for a couple of hours.

Bluefish Inn

I painted this during the summer and I just redid it. The light hit this building in such a spectacular way, that I had to stop and paint. It was a Sunday morning and though, not sure, I guess the two women were returning from church, the way they were dressed. The greens of the trees were lush and I mixed several different ones that complimented the yellow orange of the Inn. It was a fun day painting

Bluefish Inn

Drove by this Inn the other day and the sun was hitting the front through the trees. I stopped and sketched and painted it. I had a wonderful feeling about the place and will return at a different time and do it again. Currently, I am on Cape Cod without my camera so have not been blogging. I have done plenty of paintings and even sold some of them before taking a photo. Not good, but now I think I have found a way to post. Will keep at it.

The Herring River

Early morning painting of the Herring River as it moves up into the marsh.  It is quiet except for the bird chatter.  On this beautiful morning a couple of kayaks came by and also some curious walkers.  It is mysterious where the kayaks go as they meander up the river.  They disappear and reappear.  No bugs were out and I finished the painting on site.
The light is from the right at three quarters.  The large tree on the right really popped out as it was back lighted or silhouetted.  It made me change my value.

Abandoned

As I turned up Depot St. I saw this old Cape Cod house behind some high overgrown bushes. The grasses were high and yellow and there was a haunting feel to a place that had housed happier times. It is a big house. I pulled up across the street and sketched and painted the place. I put the red wagon in as a note of sadness. It was a hot and humid day and soon the bugs found me. I think I finished in less than an hour and got away. The painting has lots of 'wonder what happened' secrets.
